Product Description

On June 1, 1816, then Emperor Franz I gave two patents which are considered as founding documents of the Austrian National Bank. In commemoration of the fact that, in 2016, the Austrian National Bank celebrates 200 years of existence, Austria has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the coin is the coloured façade of the Austrian National Bank, which is built in the Neoclassical style. From this façade two mythological figures are highlighted on the face of the coin. To the left is Mercury, the guardian angel of merchants and traders. To the right of Mercury is the goddess Fortuna with a cornucopia (horn of plenty) in her hand. The figures of Mercury and Fortuna are coloured in traditional colours. At the top of the coin, the country name Republik Oesterreich is shown in red. At the bottom of the coin the text "200 Jahre Oesterreichische Nationalbank" is also shown in red. Furthermore, on the left side of the coin the year 1816 is shown in small font, below which the year 2016 shown in a larger font. This combina tion of red and white represent the national colours of Austria. The quality of the coin is UNC (Uncirculated).
