Belgium has issued this beautiful 5 Euro coin which has the theme "De Riemaecker". In 2015 it is exactly 50 years ago that Marguerite De Riemaecker - Legot became the very first female Minister of Belgium. Marguerite De Riemaecker was born in Oudenaarde in 1913 and studied law. In 1936 she became Doctor of Law. In the year 1946 she became a member of parliament for the CVP-PSC. That was very special because in the year 1948 the Belgian women finally obtained the right to vote! In the year 1965 she was appointed as Minister for Family and Housing. She became Minister of State in 1974, she died in 1977. To commemorate the fact that she became the first female Minister this special Belgian 5 Euro coin. On the face of the coin is an image of Margerite De Riemaecker - Legot. Her name is also shown at the top of the coin as text. At the bottom of the coin you are the years 1965 - 2015. On the reverse of the coin you the map of Europe and the 12 Stars of Europe are displayed. Furthermore, on the left side of the coin, the country designation is shown in the three official languages of Belgium, it reads: Belgium - Belgique - Belgien. The value of 5 Euro and the year 2015 are also shown. The coin is presented in luxury packaging. The quality of the coin is Silver-Proof and the issue is 5,000 copies.
