In 2016 it is 100 years since the famous French-speaking Belgian poet æEmile VerhaerenÆ passed away. Emile Verhaeren was a distinctive figure of the Symbolic Trend. He wrote short stories and plays, he was also a speaker. His work has been translated into almost 30 languages and this literary celebrity is even called the National Poet of Belgium. In 1911 he was nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature, which he did not receive! On the coin is an image of Emile Verhaeren with a stack of books, an ink jar and a fountain pen on the right.
