Product Description
December 1967 was a milestone for the Medical World. Dr. Christiaan Bernard performed the first ever Human Heart Transplant in the Groote Schuur Hospital at Cape Town. After resolving problems with rejection symptoms heart transplants were possible throughout the world. 2017 is the 50th anniversary of this first Heart Transplant. To commemorate this Belgium has issued a special 5 Euro coin. On the face of the coin is a red-coloured heart shape with an image of a heart. Furthermore, is a representation of the line of a heartbeat. In the outer ring of the coin is the English text æThe First Heart TransplantÆ and æCapetown South AfricaÆ. The date 3 December 1967 is also shown. On the reverse of the coin is the map of Europe with its EU countries. In addition the 12 stars of Europe and the value of 5 Euro with the year 2017 are printed. In the three official Belgian languages the name of Belgium in French, Flemish and German are also shown. The coin is struck in the Quality Proof, presented in a luxury wooden pac kage and is supplied with a certificate.
