Product Description

This 2017 Maltese 2 Euro coin has the theme of the æHagar QimÆ temples. It is the second coin in the series of seven special 2 Euro coins that Malta will issue from 2016 to 2022. The subject of this series is the Maltese prehistoric monuments. This second coin of the series has the theme of the Hagar Qim temples near Qrendi in Malta. Qrendi is located in southern Malta where the temples are located on a hill overlooking the island of Filfla, the southernmost point of Malta. The Hagar Qim temples are one of the largest megaliths (stone monuments) in the world. They are also one of the oldest free-standing monuments in the world (3,600 - 3,200 BC). The temples are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. On this beautifully coloured 2 Euro coin, positioned centrally is an image of the Hagar Quim temples. Above is the text æHagar Qim TemplesÆ and the years 3600 - 3200 BC. In the outer ring of the coin are the 12 stars of Europe.
