Product Description

This is the seventh coin from the series of 8 coins with the subject of former Finnish presidents. The seventh Finnish president was æJuho Kusta PaasikiviÆ (1870-1956). He was born with the Swedish name Johan Gustaf Helstén, but this was changed to the Finnish Juho Kusta Paasikivi. After his university studies he first worked in the banking industry. He became politically active and became a minister, among other things. After retiring from politics, he became an ambassador in Sweden, an extremely important position at that time because Sweden became an important partner of Finland. Immediately after World War II, Paasikivi became president (1946). He was 76 years old and was president until his death in 1956. Characteristic of his presidency was that he decided that Finland would not become a Russian satellite state. On the face of the coin is an image of Paasikivi. This image is encircled by text æJuho Kusta PaasikiviÆ and the years 1870 and 1956. The reverse of this series of eight coins is the same, denoting a cityscape as seen from an open book. Furthermore, on the reverse, the value of 5 Euro, the year 2017 and the country name Suomi (Finnish) and Finland (Swedish) are printed.
