Product Description

This is the German 2 Euro coin Berlin æCharlottenburgÆ in Proof Quality. Since 2006, Germany has been issuing a series of special 2 Euro coins on which a building from a German federal state is central. Germany has 16 federal states, these are called in German a Land (plural Länder). They are similar to a county in the UK. The German federal states each have a certain form of independence. The subject of the 2018 coin is the Land of Berlin. Berlin needs no further explanation, it is remarkable that Berlin, as a state, has no capital as it is itself a capital. Charlottenburg Palace was chosen as the building for the 2018 German special 2 Euro coin. This castle was built around 1700 by order of Sophie Charlotte. In the Second World War it was almost destroyed, and was rebuilt after the war. Charlottenbrug Palace is the largest castle in Berlin. On the coin is an image of the front of Charlottenburg Palace. On the left side of the coin is the year 2018. At the bottom of the coin is the name Berlin below which is the letter "D". This letter D indicates the country name Germany (Deutschland). The mint letter is shown on the top right of the coin. German coins are struck in five different mints which are represented by a letter û A = Berlin, D = Munich, F = Stuttgart, G = Karlsruhe and J = Hamburg. A Proof Mint is in the highest quality. The coins have been struck with a special stamp and then carefully packaged one by one in the luxury packaging. In German, a Proof coin is called "Spiegelglanz", i.e. the coin shines like a mirror!
