Slovakia BU 2018 Banic Parachute

This is the 2018 BU set from Slovakia "Stefan Banic". This set is the second BU set from the series of Slovak inventors. Stefan Banic (1870-1941) came from a poor family of stonecutters. After being trained as a stonemason, he left for the U.S.A in 1907. He was extremely interested in everything related to aviation and he started with the development of a Parachute. In the year 1913 he could test his parachute himself û he jumped from a building of 15 floors! In the First World War the American army even used his Parachute from which he received a patent in the year 1914. (Number 1108484). Banic is not considered to be the inventor of the parachute, but as the inventor of a workable parachute. Banic returned to Slovakia in 1920 where he died in 1941. To commemorate Banic's patent on his parachute 100 years ago, Slovakia has issued a special BU set. On this BU set the parachute of Banic is described in detail. The complete set of Euro coins from Slovakia 2018 is packaged in the set, with a special Panic medal as an extra. The edition of this set is only 2,000 copies!
