Germany 2 Euro 2018 Helmut Schmidt Coloured

Germany has issued a special 2 Euro coin in memory of Helmut Schmidt (1918 - 2015). Helmut Schmidt was from Hamburg where he lived almost his entire life. As a young man he fought in the German Wehrmacht (army). After his study as an economist, he joined the SPD in the Bundestag, the German parliament. He held various ministerial positions and from 1974 to 1982 was Chancellor of Germany. Since the Second World War Germany has had only eight Federal chancellors so far! He was very interested in music, spoke fluent English and was a chain smoker until his death. His tenure was characterized by austerity and sobriety with a great cooperation in Europe, in particular with France. Furthermore, with his Eastern politics, he sought a rapprochement with the East, a policy that was continued by his successor Helmut Kohl (CDU). On this beautiful coloured 2 Euro coin, Helmut Schmidt is confronted with a conversation partner in his characteristic posture. At the top right of the coin is the name Helmut Schmidt in an arc coloured red and on the right side the years 1918 and 2015 are coloured black. Below these years is the letter indicating in which mint the coin was struck. On the left side is the yellow coloured letter æDÆ, being the abbreviation of Germany (Deutschland). This letter D should not be confused with the mint letter. Under the D of Germany is the yellow coloured year 2018. The colours of Helmut Schmidt and the years together form the National colours of Germany being black, red and golden-yellow.
