San Marino 2 Euro 2017 Giotto Coloured

Giotto de Bondone was a versatile Italian artist. He not only painted but was also a sculptor and a famous architect for that time. One of the most famous works that he designed is the Bell Tower of Florence Cathedral. This tower is entirely of Tuscan marble and is 85 metres high! Giotto was born in 1267, (there are also sources dating from 1266), but it is assumed that 1267 is his birth year. In the year 2017 it was 750 years ago that Giotto was born and to commemorate San Marino issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the left half of the coin, is the year of birth (1267) and the year 2017. These are green in colour. In addition, vertically, his name Giotto is coloured in green and the country name San Marino is coloured in gold. These green and golden colours refer to the green and golden colours that are also visible on the San Marino flag. There is also a fragment of the coloured bell tower of Florence Cathedral. On the right hand side of the coin you can see a coloured image of Giotto. This portrait is a detai l of the painting "Five Masters of the Florentine Renaissance".
