Spain 2 Euro 2017 Santa Maria del Narango Coloured

As of 2010 Spain issues, annually, a special 2 Euro coin from a particular region in which a historic building is central. The theme of the 2017 coin is Asturias with the associated Church of Santa Maria del Naranco. The Principality of Asturias is one of the 17 autonomous provinces of Spain and is located in northern Spain. The church of Santa Maria del Naranco is an Asturian pre-roman church and is almost 1200 years old! The church is characterized by a stylistic pre-roman architecture partially mixed with newer architecture. Over the centuries the church has experienced a lot. Since 1985, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the coin an image of Santa Maria del Naranco is depicted. This is coloured according to the current colours of the church. The church was built at the foot of Mount Naranco. At the top of the coin, the country name Espana (Spain) is coloured red and the year 2017 is coloured yellow to emphasize the Spanish identity of this currency, (yellow and red being SpainÆs national colo urs).
