Austria 3 Euro 2017 Kingfisher

The fourth coin from the Austrian coin series with the topic of "Night Animals" has as its subject the "Eisvogel" (Alcedo Atthis), which in Britain is known as a æKingfisherÆ. There are seven varieties of kingfisher. It is a small bird with a big head, short tail and small feet. The bird is shy and lives mainly on fish. It has a long beak that is suitable for catching small fish and insects. The bird lives in and nearby water. The kingfisher was threatened with extinction for a long time. However, especially because of the mild winters, the number of breeding pairs remains quite stable. The Kingfisher is a beautiful bird and is blue and orange in colour. On the face of the coin is an image of the beautiful blue and orange coloured bird. What's special is that this coin lights in the dark! In addition, a watery landscape where a fish jumping from the water is depicted. To the right of the fish is the year 2017 and at the bottom is the word Eisvogel in capital letters. The reverse of this series of coins is alw ays the same. In the middle the 12 animals of this series are represented. At the top of the coin the country name of the Republic of Oesterreich (Republic of Austria) is displayed and the value of 3 Euro is shown at the bottom of the coin.
