Austria 20 Euro 2017 Maria Theresia Tapferkeit

Maria Theresia is the title of the new series of four coins issued by Austria. Maria Theresia (1717-1780) followed her father Charles VI in 1740 as the first female head of the Habsburg Monarchy. She was a strong and brave woman who knew her skills and, despite the problems she encountered, she became one of the most influential people of the time. She had as many as 16 children, most of whom were strategically married. In 2017 it is 300 years since Maria Theresia was born. As a commemoration of her 300th birthday a series of four coins will be issued. The theme of this first coin is Brave and Ordinary. The images on this series of coins are based on Medals from Maria Theresia's time. The face of the coin is based on a Matthew Donner Medal from 1741. It shows Maria Theresia looking to the right. In the outer ring of the coin, the name of the Republic of Austria is shown and the value is 20 Euro. At the bottom of the coin, her name Maria Theresia Augusta is printed. On the reverse of the coin is a compilation of two medals. This introduces Maria Theresia as Minerva with a coat of arms shield in her hand. In addition, is an army in the attack position and a few guns. On the right you will see the word Fortitudo (Bravery). At the bottom of the coin is the year 2017 in Roman numerals = MMXVII.
