Cyprus 2 Euro 2017 Paphos Coloured

Cyprus has issued a special 2 Euro coin in the year 2017. It is the first time since the introduction of the Euro in Cyprus in 2008 that they have issued their own special 2 Euro coin. In 2009, 2012 & 2015 a joint 2 Euro coin was issued. The theme of this special 2 Euro coin is Paphos. Paphos is a city located in the South-West of Cyprus. There are about 100,000 inhabitants and the old city is on the Unesco World Heritage List. Paphos was in the year 2017, together with the Danish city Aarhus, the European Capital of Culture. To celebrate this important fact, Cyprus has released this special 2 Euro coin. On the coin you can see the antique Odeon theater coloured in its natural colour with the grass in the foreground. This theater is about 1800 years old and is still used for music and theater to this day. At the bottom of the coin, within a circle, the country name Cyprus in Turkish and in Greek can be found. Furthermore the text æPaphos 2017 - European Cultural CapitalÆ written in Greek is in the upper porti on of the same circle. This circle conforms to the typical Cypriot colours of blue, yellow and a lot of white. The coin is packaged in a plastic coin capsule.
