Cyprus 2 Euro 2017 Paphos Silver-plated

Since the introduction of the Euro in Cyprus in 2008, and for the first time Cyprus has issued a special 2 Euro coin of its own. In 2009, 2012 and 2015 a joint 2 Euro coin was issued. The theme of this special 2 Silver-plated Euro coin is Paphos. Paphos is a city located in the south-west of Cyprus. There are about 100,000 inhabitants and the old city is on the Unesco World Heritage List. In 2017 Paphos, together with the Danish city Aarhus, is the European Capital of Culture. To celebrate this important fact, Cyprus has released a special 2 Euro coin. On the coin the antique Odeon theatre is depicted. This theatre is about 1800 years old and is still used for Music and theatre to this day. At the bottom of the coin is the country name Cyprus in Turkish and in Greek. Furthermore, "Paphos 2017 - European Cultural Capital" is printed in Greek. This coin is heavily silver-plated and it is the first Cypriot 2 euro coin to be silver-plated.
