Cyprus 5 Euro 2017 Vasilis Michaelides

Vasilis Michaelides (1849-1917) is known as the National poet of Cyprus. His poetry had an epic character. He was a volunteer in the army and was inspired by the writing of patriotic poems. He is characterized as a primal Cypriot. In the year 2017 it is 100 years since Vasilis Michaelides died. To commemorate this Cyprus has issued a special 5 Euro coin. On the face of the coin is an image of Visilis Micahelides. On the right side of the coin is the value indication of 5 Euro. On the reverse of the coin the country name of Cyprus is shown in three languages together with the year 2017. In the centre is the coat of arms of Cyprus, the peace dove with the olive branch. The year 1960, the year that Cyprus became independent from England is also displayed. Furthermore, a laurel wreath is pictured at the bottom of the coin. The circulation of this coin is only 2,000 copies!! The coin comes in a luxury package with a numbered certificate.
