Product Description

This special coin, with a nominal value of 8 Euro, has the theme of the Hanzestad Tallinn. Over 5,000 years ago people already lived in the area which became today's Tallinn. These people mainly lived in the places where the catching of fish was easiest. Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is translated in its two parts Tal-linn and means low-lying part of the city on the water. Tallinn was a city of great significance as a Hanseatic city in the Middle Ages. That was especially until about 1700. From 1700 to 1917 the city became less important as a trading city. The 20th century was a turbulent time for Tallinn and Estonia, there were no less than six different flags in this century! Now, about 450,000 people live in this beautiful modern city with its centuries-old city centre. On the coin there is a silhouette of the city of Tallinn with its buildings and churches. At the bottom of the coin you can see a sailboat to indicate that Tallinn is located directly on the Baltic Sea. In the middle, the Tallinn shield is coloured, this is a silver cross with a red background, above which is the name Tallinn. The value of 8 Euro is also shown. On the reverse of the coin you can see the text Eesti Vabariik (Republic of Estonia) with the Estonian Coat of Arms in the centre. At the bottom of the coin is the year 2017.
