Product Description

The famous German publisher and printer owner Ernst Litfass was born in 1816. In the year 2016, it was 200 years since Ernst Litfass was born, and in order to commemorate this Germany has issued a special 20 euro coin. Ernst Litfass lived in Berlin and during his time there was a huge growth of advertising posters stuck everywhere. This was banned at one point and Ernst Litfass conceived a round column where everyone could paste the posters. This was a great success and until today, only in Germany there are still 50,000 of these so-called Litfass Columns! (They are also called nicknamed a æpepperpotÆ). On the coin is an image of a man who could be Ernst Litfass, but could, coincidentally, also be a passer-by, next to the Litfass column that is also depicted. In addition, there is a street lamp from Litfass's time. At the top of the coin is the text æ200. Geburtstag Ernst LitfassÆ. The reverse of the coin is in harmony with the face. The German Eagle is pictured to the left with the 12 stars of Europe equally divided above and below the eagle. The country name of Bundesrepublik Germany as well as the value of 20 Euro and the year 2016 are depicted. On the right hand side of the coin is the letter æDÆ indicting the Munich mint. Around the edge of the coin æRundum Informiert (Informed all around) is printed.
