Product Description
The theme of this specially coloured 2017 Italian 2 Euro coin is the æBasilica of San MarcoÆ in Venice. The name of San Marco comes from the Evangelist Marcus who was buried there. This Cathedral is Venice's largest church. The church dates originally from the 9th century and in the year 1063 the construction of the current cathedral was started. After a construction period of more than 550 years, the San Marco Cathedral was completed in 1617. This unique cathedral can be viewed all year long, but both men and women must be dressed appropriately. To commemorate the fact that this beautiful cathedral was completed 400 years ago, Italy has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin is an image of the front of the San Marco. This is perfectly coloured according to the original colours of the San Marco. At the top of the coin, the name Venezia (Venice) is coloured in green and at the bottom of the coin the text of San Marco in the colour red. Above this text the years 1617 and 2017 are coloured white. The colours of the text and the years reflect the Italian National colours. In the outer ring of the coin are the 12 stars of Europe.
