Product Description

Latvia is issuing a series of special 2 Euro coins highlighting its four provinces. The first was published in 2016 (Vidzeme). In 2017 "Letgallen" and "Courland" will be represented and in the year 2018 the series will be concluded with the province of "Zemgalen". This particular 2 Euro coin has the theme of "Kurzeme". Kurzeme is the westernmost province of Latvia and includes the major port cities of Ventspils and Liepaja. Kurzeme has a rich history and has a particularly German history. The coat of arms of the province is depicted on the coin. On this crest one sees a lion walking to the right. Above the coat of arms is the country name Latvija (Latvia) and under the coat of arms is the province name Kurzeme.. On the right side of the coin is the year 2017. The edge lettering of the coin is DIEVS * SVETI * LATVIJU (God Bless Latvia). This coin is mounted in a beautiful coincard on which the typical colors of Kurzeme (light red) are clearly visible. On the front of the coincard the map of Latvia is displaye d with extra emphasis on Kurzeme. On the back of the coincard the technical specification of the coin and the coincard are printed. Remarkably, the coin is minted in Germany at the Staatliche Münze Baden Württemberg, which is the mint where the German coins with the letter F are struck.
