Product Description

Latvia issues a beautiful series of special 2 Euro coins from its four provinces. The first was published in 2016 (Vidzeme). In 2017 followed Letgallen and Kurzeme and in the year 2018 this series will conclude with the province of Zemgalen. This particular 2 Euro coin has the theme of Kurzeme. (Kurzeme is in Dutch Koerland and in English translates to Courland). Kurzeme is the westernmost province of Latvia with the major port cities of Ventspils and Liepaja. The region has a rich history which is particularly German. On the coin is the coloured coat of arms of Kurzeme. On this crest a lion walking to the right is depicted. Above the coat of arms is the country name Latvija (Latvia) and under the coat of arms is the province name Kurzeme. The country name and province name are both coloured in white. On the right side of the coin is the red-coloured year 2017. Together with the country name, province name and this red-coloured year the National colours of Latvia, red and white, are shown. Around the edge of the coin DIEVS * SVETI * LATVIJU (God Bless Latvia) is printed.
