Product Description

We have had available from stock the 2017 Luxembourg 2 euro coin æWillem IIIÆ - Silver Plated for some time. By mistake we have neglected to mention this in our newsletters. On February 19, 1817 William III (in French Guillaume III) was born. He was Grand Duke of Luxembourg and King of the Netherlands from March 17, 1849 until the day of his death November 23, 1890. William III was a special man, sometimes he did not care about anything. When he walked into the palace with muddy shoes he refused to clean it! He was married to Sofie van Wurtemberg. This was not a good marriage. After the death of Sofie, William III married Queen Emma. They had one daughter: Princess Wilhelmina. The Luxembourg constitution stated that only male successors could be Grand Duke. William III only had the later Queen Wilhelmina as successor and since 1890 another branch has continued as the successors of William III. In the year 2017 it is 200 years since William III was born and to commemorate this Luxembourg has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the right side of this heavily silvered coin William III is portrayed with the text Guillaume III and the year 1817. On the left side of this silvered coin is an image of Grand Duke Henri with his name Henri written vertically. At the top of the coin, the year 2017 is also displayed vertically and at the bottom of the coin the text æGrand-Ducs du LuxembourgÆ is shown. This coin is heavily silver plated and is packaged in a plastic coin capsule.
