Product Description

The European Court of Auditors was established in 1977, and is based in Luxembourg. The audit committee checks whether the EU funds, deriving from taxpayers, are spent in a legal and economical manner, and for the purpose for which they are intended. They ensure that EU citizens get as much value for their money as possible, and the bill has the right to check every person's organization that uses EU funds. In the office each EU country is represented by one person. Because the European Court of Auditors has, in 2017, existed for exactly 40 years, Luxembourg has issued a very special coin with the extraordinary value of 40 Euro cents. It is the first time that a country has issued a coin with a nominal value of 40 cents! In the middle of the face of the coin the logo of the European Court of Auditors is depicted. This logo represents an open book with the 12 stars of Europe above which is the Latin text æCuria RationumÆ (European Court of Auditors). At the bottom of the coin is the value of 40 Euro Cent. In t he outer ring of the coin is the French text "Cour des Comptes Européenne" and the years 1977 and 2017. On the reverse of the coin is an image of Grand Duke Henri looking to the right. The country name Létzebuerg (Luxembourg) and the year 2017 are shown vertically. The coin is presented in a luxury package and the issue is only 1,500 copies!!
