Malta 2 Euro 2016 Ggantija Tempels Coloured

This special 2016 Maltese 2 Euro coin has the theme of the temples of Ggantija. It is the first coin of a series of seven coins with a historical subject. The Ggantija temples can be found on the island of Gozo. In Malta there are three inhabited islands, the main island of Malta, the island of Gozo and between Malta and Gozo is the smaller island of Comino. The construction of the Ggantija Temples started more than 5,600 years ago. The word Ggantija comes from Giant. The story was that the temple was built in one day by a giant woman. She had to lift and carry 5-metre long stones weighing more than 5 tons! On the coin is an image of the æGgantija TemplesÆ. These are naturally coloured. At the top of the coin, the text Ggantija Temples and the years 3600 - 3200 BC are coloured white. At the bottom of the coin is the country name Malta and the year 2016 coloured red. The coin was struck in France.
