Product Description
This is the fourth coin from the series of Ethnographic coins of Portugal. This coin of 2016 has the theme of the ceramics of Barcelos, which is a town in the north of Portugal, and is famous for its colourful ceramic figures and especially the æRoosters of BarcelosÆ. What began with the ceramic figures as a secondary activity has grown into a unique design of ceramics, especially the colours. There are several themes to be found in these ceramic figures. The least important ceramics seen in Barcelos are the Barcelos Roosters. These are also found throughout Portugal but originate from Barcelos. The legend of the Barcelos Rooster is historical! On the face of the coin, the coat of arms of Portugal is seen in the centre of the coin. Circled around the crest are eight Roosters of Barcelos, which in turn are encircled by the country name of Portugal. Within the country name the year 2016 is displayed. On the reverse of the coin are some ceramic figures. At the top of the coin is the text Figurado de Barcelos ben eath which is the value of 2.5 Euro.
