Product Description

In 2016 it was 450 years since the famous doctor, scientist and politician Jan Jessenius (1566-1621) was born. Jan Jessenius was a gifted scientist and was extremely innovative for his time. Ground-breaking was the first public autopsy carried out in Prague in 1600. Over the years Jan Jessenius became more and more political, and because he was protestant, he came into conflict with the Roman Catholic Church. In 1621 the Battle of the White Mountain took place and Jan Jessenius was arrested for rebellion. He was executed together with 26 other leaders of the Bohemian uprising in 1621. On the face of the coin is an image of the first Autopsy beneath which the year 2016 is printed. In the background you can see the silhouette of the Tynkerk in Prague. At the top of the coin is the Coat of Arms of Slovakia and the value of 10 Euro. On the right side of the coin the country name Slovensko (Slovakia) is printed. At the bottom of the coin is the year 2016. The reverse of the coin shows an image of Jan Jessenius at an older age. On the right side of the coin is his name and on the left is his birth year (1566) and year of death (1621).
