Adam Frantisek Kollár (1718-1783) was a famous Slovak intellectual with a large international reputation. He was a real born and raised Slovak. He was known for his great intelligence. After having first been schooled in Slovakia, he studied further in Vienna. He broke off his ecclesiastical study, later he even became a critic of the Catholic Church. This mega intelligent man was also called the Slovakian Socrates. He spoke about 10 different languages! He is seen as the inventor of the concept of Ethnology. In 1748 he became director and adviser to the Royal Library in Vienna a very high function at that time. He was also a personal adviser to Empress Maria Theresia. In the year 2018 it is 300 years ago that Adam Frantisek Kollár was born and to commemorate this, Slovakia has issued a special silver 10 Euro coin. On the face of the coin one sees, mainly, a number of books depicted to emphasize the wisdom and the bibliographic function of Kollár. Above the first row of books, the country name Slovensko (Slov akia) is shown. On the left side of the coin is the Coat of Arms of Slovakia together with three books. Below this is the value indication of 10 Euro alongside a number of books.
