Product Description

In the year 863 the Greek brothers Konstantin and Method went to Great Moravia (now Slovakia). This is one of the most important moments in Slovak history. The missionaries Konstantin and Method understood the high status and culture of Great Moravia and translated the scriptures into the Slavic language. In the year 868 they went to the Pope in Rome where they defended the Slavic Language as an official Bible language. At that time only Latin, Greek and Hebrew was recognized as a biblical language. The Pope approved the Slavic language and this is considered the ultimate work of these two brothers. In the year 2018 it is 1150 years ago that the Slavic language was recognized as a Liturgical language and to commemorate this, Slovakia has issued a special 10 Euro coin. On the front of this beautiful silver coin the beginning of Christianity in Slovakia is represented by an image of a plaque that was found at an excavation in Western Slovakia. A Greek cross which is filled with letters from the Glagolitic alpha bet is depicted. Furthermore, the coat of arms of Slovakia and the country name Slovensko (Slovakia) are shown. At the top of the coin is the value indication of 10 Euro. On the reverse of the coin Konstantin and Method are portrayed with a cross with Jesus in the background. Konstantin and Method are depicted under the arms of Jesus. In a circle is the text æUznanie Slovanskeho Liturgickheho JazykaÆ (Recognition of the Slavic Liturgical Language). At the bottom of the coin is the year 868.
