Product Description
Worldwide, people are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of insects such as bees. The month of May is a beautiful spring month, everything blooms and the bees are especially busy. Beekeeping is a centuries-old tradition in Slovenia. To date, there are more than 10,000 beekeepers! The Krainer Bee is a familiar bee that occurs especially in Slovenia. Because bees are very important to life on earth, Slovenia has made an extra effort for the bees and the United Nations has declared the date May 20 as "World Bee Day". A whopping 115 countries approved this on 20 December 2017 and the date 20 May will be the World Bee Day with effect from the year 2018. To celebrate this, Slovenia has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of this silvered 2 Euro coin a honeycomb in the shape of a globe is depicted on which the Eastern Hemisphere is shown. At the upper left side of the coin is the Slovenian text "SVETONI DAN CEBEL" (World Bee Day). At the bottom right of the coin is the country name SLOVENIJA (Slovenia) together with the year 2018. In the outer ring of the coin are the 12 stars of Europe. The coin is heavily silver plated and is packed in a plastic coin capsule.
