Product Description
The most important building in Florence is the Cathedral of Florence which is officially called the Basilica of Maria del Fiore (Florence). In the year 2018 it is 600 years ago that the dome of the Cathedral was designed and construction started. The dome is considered one of the most important structures of that time and consists of two pointed arch shaped shells. After 18 years, in 1436, the Florentine Cathedral was consecrated by Pope Eugene IV. The cathedral was completely finished in the year 1472 with the completion of the lantern above the dome. The Cathedral is one of the largest cathedrals in the world. To commemorate the start of the construction of the dome of the Cathedral, the Vatican has issued a special bimetal 5 Euro coin. On the face of the coin is an image of the Cathedral of Florence with the text æCitta del VaticanoÆ (Vatican City) in an arc above it. Furthermore, the value indication of 5 Euro is shown. On the reverse of the coin the Papal coat of arms is depicted together with the text æ Franciscus VS PP A.D. MMXVIIIÆ (2018). The quality of the coin is Proof and is presented in a luxury package. A certificate of authenticity is also supplied with this coin of which only 4,999 copies have been minted in Proof quality.
