Product Description

This is the proof set from The Vatican 2017 + Gold 50 Euro. Nine coins are packed in this set. This is the full set of Euro coins from The Vatican 2017. This is the full series of Euro coins from the Vatican 2017 with, as an extra coin, the silver 20 Euro from 2017. From the introduction of the Euro in 2002, the Pope was depicted on The Vatican Euro coins. The present Pope, Franciscus I, has decided that his image does not need to be shown on the coins anymore. The PopeÆs image was replaced by the Papal Coat of Arms with effect from 2017. The Papal Coat of Arms is the coat of arms that Franciscus I has used since 1991 when he became Bishop of Argentina. At the top of the shield is a mitre with the two keys of Saint Peter. In the centre is the letters IHS of Christ, above these letters is a cross and below them are three black nails. The star refers to Mary and the grass refers to Joseph. At the bottom of the coat of arms is the motto of the Pope. This coat of arms is miserando atque eligendo (meaning lowly but chosen; literally in Latin 'by having mercy, by choosing him). This image can be seen on all of the coins from 1 cent to 2 Euro. The text Citta del Vaticano is also displayed on these coins. As an extra coin in this set the Gold 50 Euro 2017 is packaged. On the golden 50 Euro coin is a picture of a painting which was painted in the year 1700 by H.A. Langenmantel. Mary is seen removing a knot from a rope, this implies that she can solve many problems. This painting hangs in the St. Peter am Perlach church in Augsburg, Germany and left a great impression on the Pope when he was still Bishop. Additionally the country name Citta del Vaticano and the value of 50 Euro are shown. On the reverse of the coin we see the Papal Coat of Arms and the text Franciscus Pont. Max. AD MMXVII (= 2017). The coins are in the quality æProofÆ, that is, they are struck with a special stamp and therefore have the highest quality. The coins are presented in a beautiful luxury package and are delivered with a certificate.
