Product Description
Since 2006, Germany annually produces a special 2 Euro coin of a Bundesland (province) depicting an important object of that Bundesland. 2017 sees the turn of the Bundesland æRhineland PfaltzÆ and on the coin the Porta Nigra (Black Gate) in Trier is depicted. In 1946 Rheinland Pfalz was created a Bundesland, it has an area of approximately 20,000 sqkm. That is about half the size of the Netherlands and about 1.5 times as large as Flanders. Rhineland-Pfaltz is located in the south-east of Germany, has about 4 million inhabitants and the capital is Mainz. On the coin is an image of the Porta Nigra in Trier. This is the best-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1986. The German coins are struck in five different places, which are indicated by a mint letter. The mint of this coin is shown on the left side of the coin at the 9 o'clock position. At the bottom of the coin is the letter D, representing the country name of Germany (Deutschland). To the right of the coin are the letters CH, which is the abbreviation of the coin designer, the Hamburg artist Frantisek Chocola. The coin is heavily plated.
