Product Description

After the February 1917 Revolution, the provisional Russian Government issued a decision on autonomy of Estonia on April 12, 1917. The Estonian Provincial Assembly, in Estonian called Maapäev, was formed on June 26, 1917, and was in fact the first step towards an independent republic of Estonia, which became a fact on February 24, 1918. In 2017, it is 100 years since the Maapäev was formed and on the exact day of the 100th anniversary Estonia issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the coin are green-coloured oak leaves and brown-coloured acorns. The bare oak trunk and branches are coloured in the national colours of Estonia, white, black and blue. The coloured winding oak symbolizes EstoniaÆs rise to independence. The bare branches relate to the year 1917 and the green leaves symbolize power, performance and life span. These oak leaves can also in the Coat of Arms of Estonia. On the left side of the coin is the year 1917 and the text æMaapäevÆ. On the right side of the coin the country name Eesti (Estonia) and the year 2017 are shown. The text and the year are gold coloured, this colour is also prominent in the crest of Estonia.
