Product Description

Finland has issued this coin in memory of Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985). In the year 2015 it was 100 years ago that the artist Tapio Wirkkala was born. Wirkkala was an artist who worked with various materials, such as glass, wood, porcelain, metal and even plastic! Tapio Wirkkala was a versatile artist and was enormously productive. He was also an industrial designer and in various households objects, such as vases and other household items designed by Wirkkala have been used to this day without anyone knowing who the designer was! On the face of the coin the hands of Wirkkala, who is modelling with materials to make an art object, are depicted. The country designation Suomi Finland and the value 10 Euro are also shown. On the reverse of the coin is an image of a sculpture of a wading bird and a detail of a wooden work of art (scales). From the year 1955 to 1981 Tapio Wirkkala was portrayed on Finnish Banknotes! The coin is presented in a luxurious package with the image of Tapio Wirkkala. The quality of the coin is silver proof and the nominal value of the coin is 10 Euro.
