Product Description
In 2015 it is 150 years since the Finnish Jugendstill painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela was born. Akseli Gallen-Kallela was a pioneer of Finnish art and was inspired by Finnish nature, culture and legends. He painted his most famous works during his study in Paris, but a work from his later period was chosen to appear on the reverse of the coin. This work is ÆThe mother of LemminkäinenÆ. On the face of the coin there is a cryptic homage to the works of Gallen-Kallela. On the left side of the coin is the word Suomi and at the bottom is the word Finland, above which is the year 2015. On the right side of the coin is the value of 20 Euro. The reverse of the coin is the same as the special 2 Euro coin. Here Tuonela's Swan is depicted, along with the falling spirit and an artist's palette. The name of the artist æAkseli Gallen-KallelaÆ is also shown. In the artists palette is his birth year (1865) and the year of his death (1931). The coin is presented in a luxury package, the quality is Silver Proof and the issue of this coin is 5,000 copies.
