Product Description

In 2016 it is 125 years since Nelly Sachs was born. Nelly Sachs was a German-Jewish poet who received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1966. Nelly Sachs was able to escape Germany on time during World War II and settled in Sweden where she died, as a naturalised resident, in 1970. On the face of the coin is a famous line from one of her poems "Kommt einer von Ferne" (from a distance). Furthermore, the contrast between war and captivity (barbed wire) and freedom (Bird) is displayed on the face of the coin. At the bottom of the coin is the name Nelly Sachs and the years 1891 - 1970. The reverse of the coin is in perfect harmony with the front. The wings of the eagle have a vertical shape that are at 90 degrees to the shape of the barbed wire on the front of the coin. The 12 stars of Europe are equally divided, 6 to the left and 6 to the right of the eagle. The coin is minted in Stuttgart (F). Around the edge of the coin "Frieden du Leiseste aller Geburten" is printed.
