Product Description
Germany has released a unique product in the form of a 5 Euro coin with a blue plastic polymer ring. It is the first time Germany is issuing 5 Euro coins. It is also the first euro coin in which plastic is incorporated! Developing this coin was extremely difficult for the designers. The plastic must be heat and cold resistant, water must not affect the coin, and the polymer ring must not be affected by UV radiation, chemicals etc. The European Union has agreed to include plastic in a coin to improve the chances of preventing counterfeit coins! The theme of the coin is the Planet Earth and the blue ring represents the connection between the Earth and the Cosmos. On the face of the coin is the Earth in the form of dots. There is the blue ring around. In the outer ring of the face are various planets and stars. Centred on the reverse of the coin the German Eagle is portrayed with nine dots on the breast. On the outer ring of the coin are the 12 stars of Europe, the country name of the "Bundesrepublik Deutschland" and the value of 5 Euro. The year 2016 is also shown. The coin is struck at five different mints which is indicated not only by means of the letter of the mint, but also the blue colour of the plastic ring. There are therefore five different blue rings that indicate each respective mint. Around the edge of the coin "Blauer Planet Erde" is printed.
