Of the series of Greek coins with the theme of ancient Greek culture, Greece has issued a 10 Euro coin with the theme Menandros. Menandros was a prominent Greek writer of joy and lived from 342 BC to 291 BC. He was an example of the new comedy that focused more on personalities. This in contrast to the old comedy under Aristophanes who used politics as his theme . Menandros has written over 100 comedies of which nearly 10 have been preserved. Various other elements of his works have been preserved, even Shakespeare has used them! On the face of the coin is an image of Menandros as well as the year 2016. In a circle are texts of his works in Old Greek. At the bottom of the coin is his name Menandros with the years 342-291 BC. On the reverse of the coin are old Greek texts written by Menandros. In the centre is the value of 10 Euro within the zero of which in Greek is Greek Democracy and the Coat of Arms of Greece. The coin is presented in a luxury package and is supplied with a numbered certificate.
