Product Description
As part of the Europa Star programme several Euro countries, annually, issue a coin in which a particular era is central. For the year 2018 the era æBaroque and RococoÆ is central. This era was from the 17th to the first half of the 18th century. The Baroque and Rococo are characterized by Splendour and Prayer (Baroque), and elegance, sweetness and airiness (Rococo). Because Greece was, at that time, occupied by the Ottomans this art style in Greece was virtually silent. Only on the Ionian Islands occupied by the Italians, and the Greek communities in the major European cities were the Baroque and Rococo known. A central Greek figure from that time was Adamantios Korais (1748-1833). He studied, among others, in Amsterdam and was a great Greek Humanist scholar. He is also regarded as a preparer for the Greek war of independence and maintainer of the Greek language. On the face of the coin is an image of Adamantios Korias. Furthermore, the value indication of 10 Euro is shown. In a circle various decorative mot ifs from Ionic Churches are depicted. On the reverse of the coin, in the centre, is the Greek Coat of Arms with the (Greek) text Hellenic Republic. Furthermore, the large and small Europa Star logos are shown. Additionally, in Greek, the text "Baroque and Rococo" along with the year 2018 are printed. The coin is presented in a luxurious package and is delivered with a numbered certificate.
