Product Description

2000 years ago Philippi was an important city on the road from Rome to Istanbul, located in ancient Macedonia. The apostle Paul visited this city, where he was also imprisoned, and wrote his famous letter to the Philippians. In the 14th century Philippi was destroyed by the Ottomans. Since 2016 Philippi is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. On this special Greek coin the æBasilica BÆ with its linear motifs, inspired by a border pattern from an ancient Greek mosaic found at the ruins, is depicted. In Greek, the text says ARCHEOLOGICAL SITE OF PHILIPPI AND GREECE REPUBLIC. Between the text and the image of Basilica B the year 2017 is shown.
