Italy 2 Euro 2017 Saint Marks Venezia

The theme of this 2017 special 2 Euro coin from Italy is the Basilica of San Marco in Venice. The name of San Marco comes from the Evangelist Marcus who is buried there. The Cathedral is the largest church in Venice. Originally the church dates back to the 9th century, in the year 1063 the construction of the current cathedral was started. In 1617, after more than 550 years, the construction of San Marco Cathedral was completed. This unique cathedral can be viewed all year round, but both men and women must be dressed appropriately. To commemorate the 400th anniversary of this magnificent Cathedral, Italy has produced a special 2 Euro coin. The face of the coin depicts the front of the San Marco. At the top of the coin is the name Venezia (Venice) and at the bottom of the coin is the text San Marco with the years 1617 and 2017 above. The outer ring of the coin shows the 12 stars of Europe.
