Latvia 2 Euro 2016 Vidzeme Silver Plated

Latvia starts with a series of special Euro coins that, as a theme, have a province of Latvia. The reason that Latvia is issuing this series of coins is to acquaint the rest of Europe with Latvia's cultural and historical regions. Latvia has four provinces: Vidzeme, Kurzeme, Zamgale and Latgale. First in this series of coins is the Vidzeme region, (Central Life Land). The fourth and last coin will be issued in 2018 when Latvia celebrates 100 years independence. Vidzeme is Latvia's largest province at 23,000 square kilometres and lies in the middle of Latvia. Vidzeme is known for its beautiful landscape. In Vidzeme one finds Latvia's largest river (Gauja) and Latvia's highest mountain (GaizinÜ). More than half of the Latvian population live in Vidzeme. On the coin is an image of the Latvian Coat of Arms. At the top of the coin the name Latija (Latvia) is shown and at the bottom the name of the province of Vidzeme. On the right of the coin the year 2016 is shown. Printed on the edge of the coin is: DIEVS * SVET I * LATVIJU * = God bless Latvia. This coin is heavily silvered plated.
