Product Description

The last coin that Latvia has issued in 2015 has the theme of æ500 Years Livonian FerdingÆ. A Ferding is an ancient medieval coin that was first struck in the year 1515. In old German it was a æVerdinkÆ which is a so-called Kwarje (quarter). A Ferding was thus one fourth of a Mark. To commemorate the fact that it was 500 years ago that this old special coin, the Ferding, was struck for the first time, Latvia has issued a special 5 Euro coin. The coin was styled in an antique fashion and on the face of the coin is the coat of arms of the bishop of Riga, Jasper Linde (1509-1524) and the master of the Livonian Order Walter van Plettenberg (1494-1535). Above is the year 1515. There is also the text æMOARHEPIETMALIVÆ (coin of Archbishop and Master of Livonia)., The face of the coin is divided into four parts with a cross. On the reverse of the coin you the Virgin Mary is portrayed with a child in her right hand and a sceptre in her left hand. The text æMARITUSALVAPOÆ (Maria save Your people) is also displayed. In the outer ring of the coin is the year 2015 and the text "Verdenam 500". The coin is presented in a luxury package and is supplied with a certificate.
