Latvia 5 Euro 2017 The Old Man's Mitten

This is the third coin from the fairy tale series from Latvia. The theme of the 2017 coin is æThe Old Man's MittenÆ, or æThe Mitten of the Old ManÆ. The fairy tale is told in various ways, but the most common story is that of the old man who wants to sprout in the woods in winter. He loses one of his mittens and this is found by a fly who wants to use it as a warm home. A little later there a mouse comes to live there, followed by a hare, a wolf and a bear. It's very cramped but they live cosily. Sometime later the old man misses his mitten and goes looking for it. His dog barks when he sees it, and the animals are frightened so they run away. The old man is glad that he found his mitten and returned home. On the face of the coin is a mitten with a bear and a wolf sticking out. On the left side of the coin there is a fly and a hare, and on the right side of the coin is a mouse. The Latvian text Cecisa Cimdins (The mitten of the old man) is printed, also on the right. On the reverse of the coin is a number of happy dancing animals, the bear dances with the fox and the hare with the mouse. The fly is happily flying between the dancing animals. This special fairy tale coin depicts the age-old Latvian folk-story perfectly. The coin is presented in a luxury package and is supplied with a certificate.
