Product Description

Luxembourg has issued this coin in connection with the 125th anniversary of the Nassau-Weilburg dynasty. The Dutch King Willem III was, in that time, also Grand Duke of Luxembourg. When King Willem III died in 1890, according to æSalic LawÆ, he could not be succeeded by Princess Wilhelmina as the law allowed for only a male successor. At that moment the Dynasty Nassau-Weilburg originated with the first Grand Duke Adolphe. He was succeeded by William IV and because the æSalic LawÆ was abolished, he was succeeded by Grand-Duchess Marie-Adélaide. After that Charlotte became Grand Duchess, she was succeeded by Grand Duke Jean. Grand Duke Henri became head of state in the year 2000. Images of the persons described above are depicted on the face of the coin. On the left Grand Duke Henri is portrayed, the other Grand Dukes and DuchessÆs are pictured on the right side of the coin. Around these portraits, in a semi-circle is the text "1890 Dynasty Nassau - Weilbourg". To the left of centre of the coin the country name Luxembourg, in the French language, is shown vertically. The year 2015 is also shown vertically next to the country name. In the outer ring of the coin are the 12 stars of Europe. The faces of the displayed people have not been coloured. The national colours of Luxembourg û red, white and light blue, are brought to the fore in the coloured text on the coin.
