Product Description

This special 2016 Maltese 2 Euro coin has the subject of the temples of Ggantija. It is the first coin of a series of seven coins with a historical subject. The Ggantija temples are found on the island of Gozo. In Malta there are three inhabited islands, the main island of Malta, the island of Gozo and between these is still the smaller island of Comino. The construction of the Ggantija Temples started more than 5,600 years ago. The word Ggantija comes from Giant. The story was that the temple was built in one day by a giant woman, who had to move stones of 5 metres in length and weighing more than 5 tons! On the coin is an image of the Ggantija temples. At the top of the coin the text æGgantija TemplesÆ is displayed along with the years 3600 - 3200 BC. At the bottom of the coin is the country name of Malta and year 2016. The coin was struck in France and at the left side next to the year 2016 you see the Mint-Mark Cornucopia = Horn of Plenty. The issue of this coincard is limited to just 30,000 copies. Thi s coin is packaged in a nice Coincard.
