At the bottom of the coin are the series of inhabited Wadden Islands from Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands. There is also a cormorant, a starfish and a gull. At the top of the coin is the text "De Waddenzee" (the Wadden Sea) which is in a font used on old sea charts. The value of 5 Euro is shown at the bottom left with the Dutch mint-master mark.
