In 1966 the 25th of April Bridge was opened. Originally the name of this bridge was the Salazar Bridge, but after the revolution of 25 April 1974 this immense bridge was renamed theÆ 25 April BridgeÆ. The immense bridge across the Tagus is an important link in the traffic system. The bridge has 6 lanes and there is a railway track on the lower level. The bridge is almost 2.3 kilometres long and the span is more than 1 kilometre. The bridge has the largest span in Europe. The 25 April Bridge is even bigger than the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, which it resembles! Since it was officially opened 50 years ago, Portugal has issued a special 2 Euro coin. On the coin is an image of the bridge as seen from South to North. At the top right of the coin the country name of Portugal is shown with the coat of arms of Portugal. At the bottom of the coin is the text æPonte 25 de AbrilÆ along with the years 1966 and 2016. Portugal issued a Coincard in which the 2016 special 2 Euro coin "25 April Bridge" is packaged. T he quality of the coin in this package is BU (Brilliant Uncirculated). The issue of this Coincard is restricted to just 10,000 examples!
