Product Description
In the series of coins with the theme of Portuguese Kings Portugal has issued a new 5 Euro coin. This coin has the subject Catharina de Bragança (1638-1705). Catharina de Bragança married the English King Charles II. When she arrived in England she had to drink Ale (Beer)! She used to drink tea and it was special to her that she made sure she drank the tea in England and made it popular. Tea drinking (with lots of sugar!) is typically English, but the source is really the Portuguese Queen Catharina de Bragança. Catharina was not much loved in England, but through all her trials and tribulations, her husband fully supported her. She died childless in the year 1705. On the face of the coin is a teacup displayed vertically, including the text "Five o'clock Tea". Additionally, the country name Portugal and the year 2016 are shown, the value of 5 Euro and the Portuguese coat of arms are also depicted . On the reverse of the coin there is an image of Catharina of Bragança with her name in Portuguese as well as her birth year 1638 and year of death 1705.
