Product Description
This is the first coin of a series that have the subject of Threatened Animals. The subject of this first special Portuguese coin is the Iberian Lynx. The Iberian Lynx is a feline and is a special animal that occurs only in the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). A century ago there were still a few thousands of these animals, but in early 2000 there were no more than 100 animals, therefore these animals were almost extinct. Due to major efforts, there are currently about 400 of these animals. An Iberian Lynx distinguishes itself from other lynxes because it is smaller and has large whiskers! The main foods of the Iberian Lynx are rabbits. On the face of the coin is an Iberian Lynx that is on a rock surveying the area. In addition, the value of 5 Euro and the country name Portugal, along with the year 2016 are shown. The Portuguese Coat of Arms is also depicted. On the reverse of the coin there is another image of the Portuguese Lynx with the Portuguese text Lince Ibérico (Iberian Lynx).
